Canada 2010 King Edward VIII medallion - Reverse
This copper madallion has a diameter of 36 millimetres and the reverse shows the uncrowned effigy of Edward VIII who was king of Britain from January 20 to December 11, 1936. When he acceded to the throne in January, preparations for new coins bearing his effigy began, but Edward VIII abdicated before the production of official coins to be issued in Britain and its colonies was completed. Hence, this particular effigy originally designed by T.H. Paget, never entered circulation in Canada. The effigy itself is in ultra high relief which is reminiscent of ancient madallic art.
