Yen Meiji 28 obverse |
This piece is 416 grains, to match the "Dollar Mex" of the East — the same standard as, for instance, the British Trade Dollar. As it was demonetized, and many of the existing pieces melted, by a monetary reform law (#16 of 30 Meiji, effective 1 October 1897), then remonetized and production resumed, the rarity varies greatly by year.
Date translates to AD1895.
26.96 g, 900 fine silver, 0.7800 oz ASW. reeded edge.
