Red Cross Society medal reverse |
In two lines, from right to left, in seal-type script, very faint in places :
"Meiji 21" (year 1888)
"Japan Red Figure-10 Society"
The figure 10 in Japanese numerals is a cross shape. The recognition of the Japanese Red Cross Society by the International Committee of the Red Cross actually came in September 1887, but the date 1888 is used on all membership medals, which prior to 1941 were ordinarily silver, and afterwards aluminum.
