Translating an Early Islamic Coin - Obverse
This is a silver dirham from the dawn of the Caliphate, Year 95 in the Islamic calendar (= 715 AD). The script is Kufic, an early form of Arabic. The date and mintmark are in the outer legend, the central inscription is part of the Islamic statement of faith.

Made with assistance from Richard Plant's book, "Arabic Coins and How to Read Them". The original coin image was posted in the forum by fahte.
