Athens "owl" tetradrachm, c. 430 BC, reverse
The famous "owl of athens". The letters "AThE" to the left are the abbreviation of the city's name. The olive sprig and small crescent moon above the owl are both attributes of Athena, the city's patron goddess.

This coin shows signs of particularly heavy cleaning; it was presumably found in a fairly corroded state.
