------------------------------------------------------------
Basil II was born in A.D. 958 and was Byzantine Emperor from 10 January 976 to 15 December 1025. Although his early reign was dominated by civil war he proved himself to be a competent administrator and he was worshipped by his army and spent most of his reign campaigning with them rather than dispatching orders from a distance. Basil II was able to not only stabilize the empire but oversaw its expansion on the eastern frontier and most important of all, the subjugation of Bulgaria, the Empire's foremost foe, to bring the Byzantine Empire to its apex of power and influence.
